In the SSP Section 9 - Ports, Protocols, Service, what is the purpose of the Appendix Q reference number?

Network connections are represented in several areas of an SSP. The reference number assigned in the “Data in Transit (DIT)” table of Appendix Q should be used to align these entries to the “Ports, Protocols, Service (PPS)” table, and DIT lines on the data flow diagram (DFD).

All DIT connections should be included in all three places and are consistently aligned.The Rev. 5 templates address this by:

• Ensuring all DIT is represented in all three locations
• Provides a reference number for traceability from one to another
• Reduces clutter on the DFD by requiring only the reference number on each line

It is expected that a single entry in the Appendix Q DIT table will have the same properties in the PPS table, and on the DFD. CSPs are encouraged to consolidate the DIT table to unique entries rather than a row for every connection in the CSO.
