Why was an additional category for Generalized Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) added to the list of approved Emerging Technologies?

Generalized APIs that support chat interfaces, code generation, and text based image generation are listed in Executive Order 14110 . Following the draft public comment period, it was decided that additional capacity was needed for prioritization of these tools, along with an emphasis on both user interactive tools as well as programming interfaces that could enable more platforms and applications to incorporate generative Artificial Intelligence features.
